- 90 days. Large productive vines produce light green/ grey melons with a desirable pink flesh which is fine grained and satisfyingly sweet. Shows promising disease and sun scald resistance and drought tolerance. The melons are long and dense and are 30 lbs on average but can easily reach 40 lbs and some will be smaller with still good eating quality. Dependable producer. Developed by Charles Fredric Andrus at the USDA/ARS Vegetable Breeding Laboratory in Charleston, South Carolina, and released in 1954. This legendary variety is present is nearly 95% of watermelon lineage today.
