- 85 days. The original mountain sweet with red flesh. The large melons are pear shaped and have a very sweet scarlet red flesh. 25-30 lbs on average. Performs well in the north and cooler climates, which gained it notoriety in the 1840s. In 1868 the American Agriculturalist regarded it as a melon raised almost exclusively in New Jersey for the Philadelphia and New York markets and often sold (incorrectly) as Ice Cream. Suitable for shipping. A historical variety that is nearly lost in existence and present in many watermelons today.
