- 85 days. An entirely unique class of watermelons with marbled skin, white seeds, and a sweet pink flesh with deep and rich flavor that stands out and not found in modern varieties. Resistant to sun scalding and drought. Grown all over in the Virginia area in the early 1900s, possibly earlier. Grown commercially into the 1960s when it was nearly wiped out due to disease. Rescued by grower Merlyn Niedens. A very important watermelon. Also known as scaly bark or marble.
