- 85 days. These watermelons like hot and dry conditions. Here in Michigan they grow on average 30 lbs. Summers that are warmers and drier have produced 40+ lbs melons. The flesh is very sweet, excellent eating quality. Some say one of the best orange fleshed watermelons out there. A true heirloom from the early 1900s. Preserved by baker creek in the 70s before the company sold out.
