- 80-90days The Orange variant of Mountain sweet and we think the better of the two. The flesh is more orange than yellow, but mountain sweet yellow is the historical name for this variety. Juicy, firm, tender, and of course very sweet as the name implies. Bright and refreshing flavor. 1/2 inch thick rind but still suitable for shipping. These are extremely tolerant to cold nights, still producing sweet watermelons but also are tolerant to extreme heat. 80-90 days and 20-40lbs depending on weather. Highly adaptable watermelon performing in a variety of conditions. Bred in the 1840s most likely in New Jersey and became popular, outperforming other watermelons in the north. The variety made its way to Europe by the 1880s and was mentioned in several books including Vilmorin-Andrieux’s 1883 book “Les Plantes Potagères”.
