- 75 days. Still popular and widely grown today this dependable, Small icebox watermelon was bred in Oklahoma and released in 1955 by Woodside Seed Company. It has been a favorite on farms and gardens since. Good yields of small 5-10 lb melons with an almost black rind. The flesh is red and refreshingly sweet with small seeds that are tender and crunchy. Very early, can ripen in as little as 70 days but more dependably at 75 days. We select the earliest for further adaptation.
