- 95 days. One of the most famous watermelons. Long 20-40 lb melons have a dark green rind with bright yellow spots of different sizes, resembling moon and stars. The leaves are also dotted/ variegated. The flesh is pink and very sweet with good texture. Absolutely beautiful, tasting and refreshing watermelons. The rind is thick and holds well for storage and transport. Introduced in 1924 as Sun, Moon and Stars by Peter Henderson & Co of New York. The seeds were handed to Mereel Hales of Oklahoma by a Cherokee man in Mississippi. This is the same Oblong variety.
